Place both pieces on a level shelf and distribute books between them. Pads can help protect the surface, but slip resistance depends on the shelf and load. Books are display props; these are not structural shelf brackets.
Keep a row of books together with a matching pair of cut-out metal bookends. The L-shaped feet slide beneath the end books, while the tree or bird silhouettes add a visible detail at either end of the row.
